Fang Hui: The temperament, interests and aesthetics that I emphasize in my works center on a culture of longing for the objects of the late Song Dynasty. Beautiful things all disappear far too soon, and instant beauty also creates a kind of longing for objects. Apart from being interpreted as longing, sadness and misery, this longing for objects reflects compassion, sympathy, sensation and desolate beauty. The beauty in the longing for objects is the beauty of tragedy springing from the heart, of sadness and desolation, of compassion for life and the shared sentiment of changing times.
