“If not a destiny, then must be a revelation of those youngsters struggling in the big cities. “During my time in university, I kept paying attention to the lives of youngsters that is living in dwelling narrowness and ant tribe in Beijing, Shanghai, GuangZhou and ShenZhen.
My artwork is an act of event.
In April 2021, I tied a six-year-old lamb to my wool sweater and left my origin city to begin my travel to Beijing. Experiencing ten days of travel on foot, car, taxi and coach from Inner Mongolia, we(myself and the lamb) reached Beijing. During the process, in order to prevent grinding his hoofs, I even made a cart for him. But as soon as we arrived, we found out maybe it is not the imaginary ideal destination for us. And It’s hard for us to settle here.
Therefore, during the exhibition, I “enclosed” a plot in the parking lot of CAFA, this plot served as temporary home for the lamb in Beijing.
The concept is about metropolitan aliens, the rupture between urban and rural areas and also peoples’ temptation and refusal.
However, in the era of globalization, though lamb was a tool of capital in the British “enclosure” movement, it is also a voice of an existing. “If not a destiny, then must be a revelation of those youngsters struggling in the big cities.”
We all knows the tenderness that lies within a sheep. And in Chinese there is an analogy between “auspicious” and “sheep”, in which they both means beauty. The power of auspicious and beauty will eventually connect the metropolis and the countryside, home and foreign land, now and future.
