Most of Wei Lu's new paintings are fragmentary pieces of daily life, featuring variant forms of familiar themes like violence, sex, war, sports and anatomy. An absurd meaning is formed in his paintings. They seem real -- even true to life. But in fact, they are so imaginary that you could not even nd them in reality! This produces a contrast, a contradiction and suspense, even an imaginary space where anything can happen. I think this is the key to evaluating Wei Lu's works, to determining the starting point of his works. He intentionally crosses and overlaps realistic spaces, backgrounds, peoples and animals in a mixed and winding context. In the figures and structures created by Wei Lu, the real and the imaginary are reconstructed to great effect among the fragments, so as to provide a visual and distinctive point of view, form questions and dialogue between each other, between the viewer and the artist, beyond reality.
