Zhang Zheyi: The Rookies puts an arrangement of the Song Dynasty poem Water-Bag Dance on top of standard poetic inscriptions. "Rookie" is a popular online term describing superficial and incompetent people. As we penetrate deeper into local history and culture, we realize just how ignorant we are. The "rookie" here plays a role of self-mockery and it holds an unconscious irony towards current groups in society. In Nothing, there are several white glass beads as well as green vegetables. The green and white colors represent purity and innocence and the piece holds a hidden meaning ("you are my only love in the world") recognizable by those familiar with Chinese proverbs. Here, Intend to make a statement about the material world.
