Ko Youngmee : For French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu, the social unconscious provoking memory denies social reality through the formalization of art, and distances it through a process of modification, emphasis, and restriction. My private stories experienced and remembered under the influence of this age and environment, and the social problems I see – the life of socially weak persons suered by veiled enmity and power may be my own and our own stories – have been fertile ground for my work. However, I turn an event into something surreal and fairytale-like rather than representing its reality. A fairytale is a symbolic representation of humanity's universal truth and a metaphorical, lyric, cruel, or fantastic manifestation of diverse aspects of life. I would like to make an enormous scene in a form of a fairytale and convey narratives through icons within this.
