Chang Long: I like to think that the work itself is the all there is. I want viewers to sense the temperature and spirit of my works directly while because the works themselves are like living beings. My paintings explore atmospheres of danger, in which accidents could happen at any second. This is the moment of stillness before chaos rains down. In the painting structure, I capture a moment of time and prolong it forever. I am not concerned about overt tools of violence like weapons. Instead, I focus my attention on the images in which we sense an underlying danger. For example, a camera could protect our safety but also means we too are being monitored, or a gas canister in our home may serve our needs but is also full of a hidden destructive power.
