Li Peng: My work is focused on the space of my internal consciousness. Here, pale figures wander the scenes of daily life. They open their mouths to roar, but no sound escapes. They may look like abandoned children, full of fear, lost at see. I try to create morose atmospheres that communicate my sense of time and the distance that separates us from the ancients. In this process, a subtle but profound quiet expression takes form. After a period of exploration, I begin to combine the symbols and figures I have created with traditional forms. There arises a sense of conflict between the past and present, generating a strange sense of poetry and emotion.
