Wang Yanling: Reworking the subject as colors fade and forms lose shape, my process involves putting photos into acid, oils, and the pressure of high temperatures. In a sense, I give these photographs a cancer or disease that erodes the image. It's like a physical breakdown of the body or of the memory. In the work, a new image or way of cognition results. It's as though everything has been transformed and replaced with a kind of terrible beauty.
