Bo Tianyi: Owing to the continuous development of photography and film, the original function of paintings has essentially come to an end. Traditional painting has been gradually marginalized, as the medium reorients itself towards being an expression of personal experience. In the contemporary world, artists use painting to realize communication with their inner self. My work, for example, is oriented towards this form of cognition; it does not ask ex ternal questions, especially ones related to social and political issues. Today, discussing the significance of paintings for our world has become difficult, and so my work only focuses on my own experience, with the purpose being to bring my relationship with painting to a relatively comfortable position. I allow conflict to expand within a certain range, but then it is finally dissolved.
