Chen Lingjie has been using paintings to construct an eternal story. In his recent work, the absurdity of the stories he tells is intensified further, rendered in a series of specific, abstract, and iconic elements that lie scattered in a two-dimensional visual plane. Bodies, storage boxes, and geometries provide a glimpse into the artist 's imagination of the world, a fantasy space awash in circus tricks both frequent and meaningful. Referring to the schematic diagrams of installation instructions, Chen
