He Qianli: Painting is not only an occupation, but also a
form of cognition. Through this form, I place my learned professional skills alongside people's emoti ons and feelings as I
come to understand them, and express the beauty of scenery. Fortunately, oil paintings can be preserved for a long time, which
gives me a sense of securit y. From my first oil painting, whenever I look at any of my works, whether they be material objects or
image files, I can recall ever y detail of every inch in the canvas. Still,
even
a small fly on the picture's surface can remind one of
the passing of a period of time. Painting is, unfor tunately, just like a cruel mirror that allows me to see my flaws, unreachable
heights, and even my incompetence. Yet, I know what is good, and although I
may at times stumble and fall behind, I continue to press on endlessly in pur
suit of it.
