Hou Yanyan: Born in the 1980s, I have no brothers or sisters and like most of my peers, what accompanied me most during childhood was pro bably television and toys. On the path to growing up, the pressure we bear has not been any less than that of the last generation. We are sensitive, lonely and self-protective, and we have more delicate emotions, just like characters in the painting that are like girls and also r abbits. Animals and plants such as mushrooms, piranhas, and butter flies appear frequently in my picture. Though appearing desirable on the surface, the colorful f ungi are poisonous, intimating how appearances can deceive one into a dangerous trap. The real world is cruel, and so the character, afraid of being engulfed and falling into sorrow, longs for a utopia of freedom.
