Shi Bowen: Sea and mountains are the main themes of my recent works. Through a por trayal of the two, I try to represent the whole world as it appears in my eyes. Our planet holds fast to many unknown secrets, and these mysteries exert a strong attraction for me, filling me with a sense of awe. With this emotion, I paint what I see and feel around me. The sea and mountains come to symbolize the world in my heart. For humanity, the mountains a nd sea of the natural world are grand and sacred, rife with significance both material and spiritual. Whether in ancient or modern times, the figure of the mountain has been a symbol of independence and a site of spiritual ritual, while the sea has projected an aura of full vitality. It never tires, remaining mild but intractable with an invincible power, as if it cancleanour very soul.
