Wang Jun: I like painting figures, and in particular female figures (but not portraits). Still, I would like to go beyond the traditional aesthetic, poetic, or romantically melancholic themes that prevail in female figure painting. I find that images of women in modern society have changed, as the socio-cultural soil that nurtured traditional personalities of women is being eroded. With greater active social involvement, women today are able to express more genuine feelings of being human. In my painting,I strive to strike down old perspectives, turning to the exploration and expression of a brand new era of female image. After all,reality and truth are much more moving than presumed melancholy.
