Xu Xinhua: In my own words and in my artistic creation, I adopt a "ceramics-centered" methodology. This is an approach for perceiving my surroundings and thinking of art through ause of materials centered on ceramics. I have also been tr ying to find answers to the dilemma of China's contemporar y art through this approach. In applying it, I strive to maintain a flexible relationship with my materials. At times, I treat ceramics from the perspective of an ignorant, while at other times I make best use of my knowledge in the histor y of ceramics and a wide swathe of techniques. My ultimate goal is to empathize with the material, to find the spirituality of ceramics and converse with it, and then enlighten art and life with its wisdom.
