Yi Guodong: The " Travel Notes of Hong Zu" series of work originates from my reading of a book of travel notes by Xu Xiake over 400 years ago, which I have filtered through the lens of my own imagination. Xu Xiake's diary records scenic Chinese landscapes of the Ming D ynasty era, many of which have since experienced erosion by wind and rain, destruction by wars, and so forth,and now therefore look much different than he once described them. I try to restore their original look with an ultra realistic approach, while also adding a great deal of own imagination. My oil painting focus on visual perception, and I consider factors of plane vision that conform to visual rule s. My paintings also pay special attention to rendering small details. After finishing the overall image, I take my time to fill out the frame, therefore ensuring that the audience will find many interesting subtleties to

consider.
