Yuan Quan: My work displayed at this exhibition is based on scarecrows. Imagined as a personified image, scarecrows were created to guard the rice field and home. Clad in destructible human clothes, in dif ferent states of care and repair, their identities would vary over time. Bathed in such extreme loneliness, I have to wonder what would be on their minds and what expectations they might hold for life. In investigating the psychology behind scarecrows, I intend to raise questions about the emotion and self-concept of contemporar y humanity.
