Zhang Xianfei: The reason I paint the picture frame with the preference profiled is that an ir regularly shaped border can give you a fresh impression. This type of irregular frame and painting and per formance technique is of great meaning to me, as it has the qualit y of effecting an organic combination that conveys inner temperament. I prefer to make installations and sculptures,since a greater degree of freedom of expression is possible withi n this space, in a way that a rectangular fr ame and expression simply cannot meet. I always worr y about the limitations, or the shackles imposed by regular shapes and flatness, and in the past six years, I therefore began exploring this type of creative practice, a decision that has brought fun and satisfaction to me.
