Chen Lu: My life has led me to pursue emotional experience, and from them feel the fact that life exists. Every scene and item that I encounter in daily life becomes a subject in my paintings as I explore the relationship between the passage of time and the persistence of memory. In art are we to experience the present through our memories of the past? In my work I also explore the quiet whispers of life whose sounds lay behind the noise of the modern metropolis, where nature meets geometric patterns, and incorporate them my own view of true feeling. However, childhood memories remain in my mind like flavors lingering on the tongue, leading me to express myself in a fairy tale-like style, obsessed with layers upon layers of color. The flowering forth of color on canvas is buried, yet a quiet metaphor remains in rushing undercurrents below.
