Ahn Junyoung: The “Parade” series was a process in which I made a caricature of a certain anxiety, while the “Infected” series is based on minute observation. My self-observation can be summed up in the sentence “Look at the anxiety around you clearly.” It is the most important rule by which avoid feeling insecure and self-conscious; it helps me to protect myself. To see oneself in an objective way prevents anxiety from spreading out of control.

The “Infected” series is basically an extension of my self-observation. In this series, a psychoneurotic disease is not a disease caused by viral infection, but rather caused by increasing anxiety. I observe and depict the state of a spreading infection in this series. I want to gaze upon the ailing self through observation, andthrough artistic expression grasp for the truth of anxiety.
