Gu Liang: From my first painting of a pencil, I began to paint watercolors. Many objects that I use in daily life appear in my work. Their shapes, colors, textures and details all continue to seem foreign to me. When I pay attention to all of the details around me, I discover that many things that once seemed foreign actually held inside them a familiarity that was waiting to be discovered. For this reason, I focus my attention on the items I encounter in my daily life as well as those within my mind. I explore the true relationship between people and the objects they encounter. This allows me to be quiet and comfortable. In such a type of artistic expression that is not bounded by any rules, the meaning of life comes to show itself in a different way, and closely links life itself to art. When I carefully observe the world around me, art can take me into a different world where I am can follow all of my heart's desires and be truly free.
