Li Chaoran: Photography is an interesting medium that can produce "encounters" displaced in time which are highly visualized and pure. Every press of the shutter brings forth not only an image but also the birth of an "object".Therefore, in my work I explore the question of how to integrate installation to achieve "theatricality" in photography. My works mostly originate from encounters between people (including myself) and the times they live in. They are not conceptual art, nor are they cold or obscure in any way. They are just meant to record life and days past. Nevertheless, when observed from another angle, one may find that they reveal my consideration and skepticism regarding the way people live and the way society operates. As the Buddha says," material appearance is emptiness"; there must be some synesthetic emotion that can make us mutually embrace, in the absence of politics, religions and karmas. During the act of creation, I feel myself most clearly.
