Liu Qianyi: I completed my large-format paintings in 2012. At the time, I was experimenting with turning the language of the "Small Grid Series" into a force that could be released through letting it stretch across large canvases, searching for a more intuitive and expanded mode of expression. In the following works, there is consistency in the theme of exploring the body's capacity for feeling and perception. Our bodies are the most intuitive representation of our social lives. As modern society becomes mechanized and we are subject to a constant flow of information, we helplessly become increasingly impetuous as we are brainwashed and numbed. Our bodies are speaking, and I put them onto the canvas in the hope that they might be heard. This action is a search for something we shouldn't be looking for, which is the heart itself.
