Ma Shengzhe: My works are inspired by a mysterious event. By accident, a computer I became used beyond capacity and froze, revealing a sea of scrambled text. Since in my work a attempt to recreate such scrambled text, a distinctive feature of computers, I have continuously force computers to process data until they freeze, or even burn their motherboards. In order to explore the diverse forms of digital characters, I have cooperated with several engineers. I request them to work programs that allow scrambled text to appear. I ran programs concurrently and placed stress on them until the digital scenery of scrambled text appeared. After its appearance, I selected representative parts as the subject of re-creation in my work. I cannot see computers as mere tools. In facts, their breathing, rhythm, outbreak, internal shocks and disassociation give me a feeling of uncertainty and obsession. They seem to be able to sense that cycle of birth and death with a concealed and evolving unknown power.
