Wang Yu: First, a description: Oil painting on canvas. All works are without title, merely given numbers based on the chronological order in which they were begun. The original images on which the paintings are based come from the Internet, still images of movies and music videos.

In relation to the paintings: The relationship between the artist and the paintings can be described as one in which the artist tries to find a connective 'signal' while painting. If he is lucky, this signal could itself become the defining characteristic of the work, becoming the indicator of difference between one image and the next. Unfortunately, it becomes repetitive and boring when viewing all of the paintings together. Each painting is meaningful for the artist, but the meaning disappears in the process which begins with curiosity and ends with exhaustion of patience.
