Li Linlin: “Savage garden" is a series of work that focuses on conveying ideas through its theatricality and various circumstances. Theatrical and narrative constructions are not commonly seen in contemporary art. It is hoped that art will travel back to the real and tangible. Viewers stand in a genuine space that has been set up as a fictional scene. There is no distance between viewers and the work. The theme of the work has a significant stage effect. It could be peeping underneath a bed, admiring the night view from a tent, or looking around from a cage. Within the set space, viewers inevitably become part of the theatrical confrontation. The usual theme of my works is not one directly related to social reality. They are instead more connected to dreams, supernatural, mythologies and the subconscious. These elements often appear in the theatres I create.
