Liu Yalan’s artistic creation is an expression through the “oneself”. She seeks to convey in her art the freestanding creativity, unrestricted by any external confinements in society. Through seemingly insignificant details in everyday life, she discovers and illustrates objects that are directly related to oneself, in particular her passion for transfer printing and her special affinity towards paper, fabric, dyed textile and different wares. Through her solo exhibition, within the public space there are metaphors of her own experience, memory and her interest and imagination in arts. Her arts, her life and even the ordinary objects that she favors all retain a directness, simplicity and carefree self-expressiveness like that of a young student. I regard the print works by Liu a return to the original and a return to the visual arts itself. It is her way to re-approach creation and the origin of life. She maintains her liberated and open mentality, rejecting to merely copy the physical world around us.  －Feng Boyi (Independent Curator, Art Critic)
