Ma Tao: I love to paint absurd narratives. To get rid of restrictions in life, I freely represent on my canvas things or situations that are unreal. Thus a distance between the reality and the canvas is kept, which is especially rare in current social conditions. We usually feel helpless facing problems in real life. Then my paintings could convey some warmth and happiness through the gaps of a restless and cool reality. Nonetheless it might reflect my helplessness and escape from reality. I still hope to fill my canvas with sunshine, humors and surprises. Through the warmth and happiness conveyed, I hope viewers could discover the same in themselves and in their own life.
