Pyoun Dae Sik: This piece of work is based on side grafting that consists of drying and pasting traditional korean paper (Hanji) repeatedly. I try to do the pencil coloring with near perfection but I fail to do so. This process of work resembles my life. I tried to live a complete perfect life as a human being. In order to do so, I developed a strong set of restrictions and standards in my mind and did my best to stick to them. In a context of contradictory states of mind and situations, the rules I thought to be standing strong would only prove to be frail as glass, much like the lines I would try to draw perfectly with a trembling hand on embossed paper. However, after the completion of the work, this combination of unsatisfying situation creates an illusion when it is displayed as one whole, breathing organically with the space. It makes me think, even if my life is not that satisfying, even if it does not reach the standards I made for it, perhaps I can bear with it and make peace with it, fooled by this kind of illusion.
