Guan Weiwei: Humans are social animals. Everyone is the social summation of his or her life, including the artist whose culture, birthplace, background and existential reality affect his or her creations. In my works, I'm used to constructing a kind of contradiction, in order to make the landscapes look real, while they are surreal. Such contradictions appear in my works again and again. Behind the contractions, the rights of humans and nature to life and existence are sacrificed in human desire of material possessions and in the "arrogant" progress of human civilization.
