Mark He Ma:I
devote the most important creation to the most important and beloved person of
my life - my grandma.
On July 28, 1997, I was
born. That was my first time seeing grandma.
On May 1st, 2014, at the
platform of the train station, grandma was lying on a stretcher. My mother,
aunt and uncle accompanied grandma back to the north by train. That was the
last time I saw her.
Whenever I’m missing my
grandma, I’m filled with regrets. There are some contradictions in my memory. I
chose the form of pop-up book installation to present the words that I have
been hiding in my heart and that are ineffable. I don't think I have a chance
to say goodbye to my grandma, and I don't want to, either. I will never say
goodbye.
Mark's
creative inspirations come mostly from his childhood experiences and family
kinship. He tries to inject into the ever-developing art field more warming and
touching works. For a long time, he has been exploring the use of paper as a medium
of creation, and constantly developing and enriching the artistic possibilities
of three-dimensional
book-making.
