Most of his early works are mainly still lives, and they convey an orderly and absurd visual sense through reorganization, juxtaposition or partial interception of certain materials. There are almost no environmental factors in those painting. The painting is as simple and clear as possible. Meanwhile, the painting uses symmetrical and even stereotyped compositions to give the viewer a quiet visual experience. In his later works, Shao Tong has gradually focused on mainly the figures, but in fact he has treated people as still life, and tried to avoid portraying facial features, or chose to represent their backs or omit their facial expressions. Shao Tong has used the body more often to reflect interpersonal relationships and multiplicity of personalities. The still figures make people feel uneasy. In short, regardless of whether the painting content is humans or things, Shao Tong has always tried to present their most direct aspects.
