QIU Zhijie

Dean and Professor of Experimental Art Department, Central Academy of Fine Arts, artist and curator. One of the most creative artists of our time and a renowned avant-garde leader of the 1990s.

He used to be a professor of the School of Cross-Media Art of China Academy of Art, director of the General Art Studio, master and doctoral supervisor, a mentor of the Institute of Art and Social Thought of China Academy of Art, a special invited artist of the Contemporary Art Institute of the Chinese Academy of Art, and a member of the Experimental Art Committee of the Chinese Artists Association.

He was born in Zhangzhou, Fujian Province in 1969 and graduated from the printmaking Department of Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts. In 1996, he was the curator of "Phenomena and Images", the earliest video art exhibition in China. Chief curator of the 9th Shanghai Biennale in 2012. 2017 Venice Biennale China Pavilion Curator. Since 2003, he has been engaged in contemporary art education, and his concept of "total art" seeks to connect art and life, art and society. It is committed to the construction of experimental art education system, especially social art and science and technology art. In 2017, the EAST International Alliance for Science and Technology Art Education was founded at the Central Academy of Fine Arts.
